9 Facets of a Revenue-Driving Content Strategy

Posted By: Albert B Hammond – Written By Will Blunt

It’s not enough to just have a content strategy and hope it pays off. You need to identify clear goals that content marketing can help you achieve. Then you can research and create content specifically catered to that purpose.

Here are the most common content marketing goals for B2B content marketers over the next 12 months:

1. Organizational Goals

What you choose will depend on your unique business needs. If you’re a brand new start up, you probably want to get your name out there with some brand awareness. If you have a lot of site traffic but not a lot of conversions, then lead nurturing may be most important.

Once you’ve identified your goals, you need to figure out how you’re going to measure your success at achieving them. This is called a key performance indicator (KPI).

You should have several metrics per goal, such as:

  • Brand awareness: Unique page visits, inbound links, shares;
  • Engagement: Time on page, shares, comments and interactions;
  • Lead nurturing: Content downloads, e-mail click-through rate;
  • Sales: Cost per lead (CPL), total revenue.

You can usually measure these with tools like Google Analytics, social media automation platforms, or a marketing automation tool. If you already use one of these, I recommend seeing what metrics they can already measure to help you identify your KPIs.

2. Customer and Strategy Research

Content marketers today use a wide variety of techniques to learn about their audiences:

Your customer and strategy research will help you brainstorm content and optimize it to meet your goals.

At a minimum, you should focus on:

Building buyer personas

A buyer persona is a profile of your target audience or audiences. You need to discover the kind of people that have a problem that your product or service can solve. Social listening and current customer feedback can help with this.

Here’s a great resource from Sujan Patel that can point you in the right direction: 150 Buyer Persona Questions You Must Ask.

Once you’ve created personas for your target audience, they can help you brainstorm content.

Researching keywords

Use a long-tail keyword research tool like Keyword tool.io or AnswerthePublic to find keywords you can target with your content.

Answer the Public is a great content brainstorming tool. Just type in a base keyword related to your niche:

And it will return a list of common questions people ask related to it:

Identifying potential influencers

Who can help you promote your content when it does get published? You’ll need to nurture these influencers in advance.

Use a tool like Buzzsumo to find popular social media personalities that regularly share content related to your niche. Get to know these influencers so you can ask them to share your content in the future.

3. Content Planning and Management

Once you have a long list of content ideas from your research, it’s time to start planning. Put together a schedule of how much content and what types you’ll create.

Also, who will be in charge of managing it all? Here is how B2B marketers manage their content marketing today:

If you have a team, make sure everyone knows their roles and responsibilities. If you’re a team of one, map out how you will manage all the content.

4. Quality Content

Next, comes the most important part: creating quality content.

Content Marketing Institute asked B2B marketers what contributed to their strategy success, and 85 percent said higher quality content.

Quality means comprehensive, well-researched, easy-to-read writing with helpful visual assets.

Here are some common quality content pitfalls thanks to an Express Writers infographic:

image6

You should have a nice variety of in-depth content pieces and regular blog posts.

I also recommend checking out Google’s Search Quality Guidelines to see how they define “quality content.” This can help your SEO (discussed next).

5. SEO Optimization

Hopefully, you targeted a keyword in the writing process, but that’s not the end of your SEO efforts.

Optimize all of your on-page elements by including your keyword in your:

  • Headline
  • URL
  • Meta description
  • Body text
  • Alt tags
  • Anchor text

Use a plugin like SEO by Yoast to make sure you’ve covered all your bases:

You should also create an SEO-friendly site structure that makes it easy for users to navigate and find things on your site.

Create a Basecamp

Create a page on your site that helps people navigate to other useful content around your site. You can call it a “Start Here” page, like mine:

Spin Your Web

Then, think of your content like a spider’s web, with your basecamp in the center. Create relevant connections to your different content by linking them back to each other, and prioritize your link building efforts around these in-depth content pieces.

It looks a little something like this:

6. Conversion Optimization

Include elements on your site that encourage people to subscribe to your blog or sign up for your email list. Use popups and a sidebar call-to-actions to make it easy.

You should also create targeted landing pages as part of your conversion optimization efforts. Attract people to these pages and help them convert with a great lead magnet.

A lead magnet is just another type of content that offers value, such as a free report, eBook, checklist, or tool. The only difference is it comes at a price: your prospect’s email address.

Here’s an example of a lead magnet I promote for Blogger Sidekick:

This post will help you get some ideas: 40 Lead Magnet Ideas to Rapidly Grow Your E-mail List.

Once you gather some e-mails with your lead magnets, you can communicate to these people in the future via newsletters, broadcasts and e-mail automation.

7. A Promotion Strategy

Content is only as good as the promotion strategy that goes with it. Develop and standardize your strategy to get the most out of every post:

Where to promote?

What social platforms does your audience frequent? (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, etc.). I suggest taking a look at each platform’s demographics to help decide:

image11

Will you promote to online content communities like Reddit or Stumbleupon? What about Q&A sites?

This Daily Social Media Plan from Bluewire Media will help you make some smart decisions about sharing your content on every social network.

Influencer outreach

How will you reach out to potential influencers for each post? For example, you can send them an email asking them to share or @mention them on Twitter.

Repurposing

Once you’ve got all the reach you can out of your content, how will you reinvent and remarket it?

Old blog posts often make great slide decks, special guides, infographics, or video slideshows. Or you can republish it on another platform like LinkedIn or Medium

8. Funnels & Lead Nurturing

Align your content marketing strategy with your customer journey, then you’ll maximize the benefit for your bottom line. According to Campaign Monitor, for every $1 content marketers spend on email marketing, they get $38 in ROI.

Doing this can be tricky because your content isn’t sales material. It’s about answering questions, attracting interest to a topic related to your product, and addressing common pain points.

Hopefully, your prospects love your content. But how do you get them to move down the sales funnel and convert?

image12

E-mail marketing

E-mail marketing will help you nurture your leads even further by providing them with targeted content fit for their place in the sales funnel. Use an email automation tool to set up trigger campaigns based on audience behavior.

Tripwire offer

Next, comes your tripwire offer. This is a special deal or discount that prospects can’t resist, such as a low-priced trial, or limited offer package. Choose the right tripwire offer to drive your prospects to convert.

9. Options to Scale

Once you’ve standardized all the other elements of your content strategy, there’s nothing left to do but scale. There are two main ways you can do this:

Hire some help

Year in and year out, content marketers plan to create more content:

image13

So if you want to stay on top of your game and scale, you’re going to need help. You can start by hiring some freelancers or an agency to fill in the gaps of what you can’t keep up with yourself. Or if the budget’s available, you can hire an internal team to help with your content marketing.

Paid ads

The next option to scale is with paid ads. These will broaden your reach and attract more traffic to your site.

First, you can promote your posts on social media. Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and others all have paid options to help your content get reach. There’s also native advertising options with tools like Outbrain.

image14

Then you can remarket to your previous site visitors using display ads. The Google Display Network and Facebook ads support this feature.

Wrapping Up

Content marketing is a non-traditional option that can drive a lot of revenue if you do it right. Remember these nine elements to build a strategy where the value of your content has a major impact on your bottom line.

What Are the Benefits of Pay Per Click Advertising?

Posted By: Albert B Hammond – Written By Penny Lane

Pay per click advertising is intimidating to some. They do not completely understand what PPC is and they fail to see the benefits of using something like this for their own business. Pay for click is a great way to grow a business online and to increase the return on investment.

PPC is simple, once you really get an understanding of how it works. If you are new to the scene and you are trying to figure out the ins and outs of running an online business, you need to do a lot of research.

You might want to work with an expert who is willing to show you the ropes and guide you through the process of setting up successful sites and turning your basic ideas into ideas that generate money. At the very least, you need to do a tremendous amount of research in order to find success in the Internet marketing world.

PPC is an advertising method that lets you put your advertisements in text on a search engine page. Think of one of the popular search engines and what you see when you type in a search term. Several results pop up, both in the center of the screen and off to the side. Some are sponsored results, meaning you are paying for them to be there and others happen naturally based on how well you have built your site. PPC usually appears on the natural list, sometimes called the organic results, and you only pay when people choose your entry.

Using PPC allows you to target a specific geographical area. If you find that customers are more interested in your product from a different part of the world, PPC allows you to focus on that country or region. You do not need to set up a shop in a certain country to achieve results. You simply select a given country as your target and those people are going to be driven to your site. If you think your product or service is better suited for a particular region of the world, this is going to save you money because you can set your focus on one place.

PPC gives you control over the cost of your campaign. You decide what you want to pay for each visitor that follows the ink. This enables you to outbid those who might want to use similar search result terms and get more attention and more visitors than you. However, if you want to keep your costs reasonable, you can avoid the expensive terms and stick with the amount you want to pay.

The best part about PPC is that you get fast results. Visitors come to your site and you have little to worry about in regard to building an optimized site to get higher rankings. It can take weeks or longer to build a site that is capable of producing the results of PPC as quickly. Once you set up your PPC campaign, you are set to go and you will see visitors increase.

10 High-Performing SEO Content Habits to Form in 2017

Posted By: Albert Hammond – Written By Julia McCoy

The New Year is a time of resolutions and commitments to changing behavior and getting better. If you’re like most content creators, it’s likely you want to use 2017 to make your content better and enjoy a higher ROI from the material you develop.

One of the best ways to do this is by improving the SEO practices you use in your digital content. Here are 10 top tips from influencers around the country (and some from our own pockets) on how to improve the SEO value of your online content and enjoy a more prominent digital presence in the coming year.

10 High-Performing Content Habits for 2017 (And Beyond!)

Whether you’re a new business just starting out, or an established company looking for ways to make your content more prominent online, these 10 SEO tips are just what you need to succeed.

1. Create unique 10-times meta description can be one

Larry Kim’s presentation in this year’s SEJSummit talked about finding the perfect meta and how to 10 times it for the most ROI. His secret? Write a bunch of meta, and then test them to identify the one that performs 10 times better than the rest. While this is a simple tip, it’s a critical one. Meta content is often overlooked in the world of SEO and content, and optimizing meta descriptions can go a long way toward boosting your overall content and enhancing its SEO value across the board.

As you write your meta descriptions, be sure to follow these meta description guidelines:

  • Keep them between 150-160 characters;
  • Include your target keyword;
  • Make them unique (don’t duplicate meta content from other parts of your site, even if the page, product, or service is very similar to another you offer);
  • Make them compelling and exciting for readers to click.

2. Spending more time on content to ensure perfection

Content creation is a time-consuming pursuit, and it’s easy to phone it in, in favor of creating lots of content rather than hard-won content you love. In 2017, however, the influence recommendation is to do a bit of both. By spending more time on content creation while also taking the time necessary to ensure consistent production, you can build out a content presence that rewards your readers and keeps you relevant online.

, for example. Its team does one key piece a month and then a consistent amount besides the one “killer” every week. This allows the team to fortify a nice mixture of outstanding, passionate content and regular filler material that’s no less useful or interesting for their readers.

3. Focusing your content around “topics rather than terms”

In HubSpot’s recent “SEO in 2017” webinar, the team focused intensely on the importance of focusing on topics rather than terms in online content. Here’s what this means: while keyword research is still critical to the creation of great online content (more on this in a moment), readers and search engines alike aren’t interested in keyword-stuffed material that exists only to rank for a certain keyword phrase.

As such, it’s critical to focus your content on topics rather than terms. This means finding a keyword phrase you like and want to rank for, and then creating content that’s dedicated to covering the topics related to said the keyword. This will provide a broader and more exciting experience for your reader while also giving you a better chance of ranking in the SERPs.

4. Keep developing your target personas

This is a point that’s been driven home by everyone from HubSpot to Maile Ohye, developer programs tech lead at Google. While it’s easy to get wrapped up in all of the other SEO responsibilities facing your brand, developing target personas remains critical. When the Express Writers team attended the 2016 SEJ Summit, this was one of the biggest points in Ohye’s presentation.

Although Google matters for SEO, it’s your target audience that’s most important. As such, you need to keep them in mind all throughout your UI and UX. Answer their questions, eliminate annoying extra steps, and create content pointed directly at them. The user journey and experience outweighs rankings, and you’ll go far in terms of SEO if you keep this golden rule in mind.

5. Target your SEO presence toward being indexed

If your page isn’t showing up in Google, you’re not going to get anywhere fast in terms of organic search rankings. Simple tricks like maximizing clickability and focusing on searcher intent can help you produce high-performing pages that appear prominently in the SERPs, and help you claim the customers you want. This was a massive point made by Bill Hunt at SEJ Summit 2016, who called it “Making SEO Lemonade.”

6. Hire actual content experts

Search engines and consumers are only going to get smarter in 2017, and if you’re not hiring experts to write your content, you’re missing out. MarketingProfs says “If your business is gaming, then approach real gamers. If you are a B2B company, have marketing/business experts write about and for you; they know what your users are interested in.”

In addition to producing higher-quality and more relatable content, hiring an expert to craft your content for you will also allow you to provide real value and useful information to your consumers through your digital content.

7. Do your keyword research

Keyword research will still matter in 2017, and it’s critical to keep it as a central point of your content strategy. By identifying what your target audience is talking about and searching for, you can create a high-performing content strategy that produces real results. Use a keyword research tool like the Google Keyword Planner or KWFinder to determine which keywords are likely to be successful in your niche and to target them accordingly.

Once you’ve located the keywords you intend to target, remember HubSpot’s advice of targeting topics rather than terms. Use the keywords you’ve identified to cluster content topics and produce a rewarding and wide-ranging experience for your customers.

8. Make internal linking a priority

Internal linking is critical to the structure of your online content, and it can go a long way toward making your content more relevant and valuable for your customers.

As you write a post, look for opportunities to include your own content or external content as a hyperlink. In addition to providing more information for your users, this also helps make your content more engaging and exciting for the people reading it.

9. Speed things up

Influencers everywhere are obsessing over the critical nature of mobile pages in the coming year. Right now, it’s not enough to just have pages that are mobile-optimized. Instead, they need to load quickly and provide a positive user experience. MarketingProfs reports that a whopping 29 percent of mobile users will abandon a page if it doesn’t give them the information they need, or if it takes too long to load.

This explains the rise in importance of AMP pages (which load about six times faster than traditional non-AMP pages). The AMP project works by stripping away JavaScript and allowing only asynchronous script, re-sizing resources, and preventing extension mechanisms from blocking page rendering.

While AMP can be a little tricky to install on your page (unless you’re decently comfortable with coding), using a CMS like HubSpot allows you to access automatically AMP-optimized pages.

10. Market your online content

Digital content and SEO are only as strong as the marketing behind them, and marketing your content will allow you to succeed in 2017. When you market and promote your content on various sites and through your separate social media channels, you can succeed in getting links to your content and standing out as an authority figure in your industry – both of which boost your SEO. Here are some tips for promoting your content online:

  • Mention influencers and then tell them about it. They’ll likely be willing to suggest your piece to their audience, immediately expanding your reach.
  • Use social channels like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to share the news about your new content and pieces.
  • Guest post on related platforms to make the most of someone else’s audience.

Better SEO in 2017

Directory Submission: Submitting Your Website in the Right Way

Directory submission is the process of submitting to the directories. There are a lot of different types of directories. Some directories require you to pay for listing while others don’t. There are thousands of directories that allow free listing. The free listing option is the most popular choice among webmasters. With a free listing option, you don’t have to pay a cent to get your site listed on the directories.

When submitting to directories, you have to write a few titles and description. Preparing a variety of titles and descriptions allow you to prevent duplication problem. Duplicated titles and description can cause your listing to not get index by the search engine. In order for the listing to get indexed, you must write unique titles and description. The unique titles and description prevent the search engine from suspecting that the directory submission is performed purposely. It makes the directory submission process more natural. When the search engine perceive that the submission process is natural, it is more willing to get your listing indexed. Every listing has to be indexed so that the backlink is counted. If you use the same title and description for submission to 1000 directories, there is a high chance that the search engine will not get them indexed. The title and description should be completely different from each other. You must write the title and description yourself. You cannot copy them from other listings. Copying the title and descriptions will also cause duplication problem.

You must tag the listing with keywords. Tagging the listing with keywords enables the visitors to find it within the directories. If you don’t tag it with keywords, the visitors won’t be able to find it. Getting your website listed in the directory won’t help you to drive targeted traffic. In order to drive targeted traffic to your site, you have to tag it with relevant keyword. For example, if your website offers guides for dog training, you should use a keyword such as dog, dog training, and etc.

After you have submitted the site, you have to wait a few months for the editors to review it. It can be approved within 1 day or 1 year. It depends on the editor. If the directory has a lot of backlogs, you will have to wait for a long time before it will be your turn. For a faster approval, you can buy the paid listing. The paid listing allows your website to become featured in the search result and homepage.

Directory submission is a tiring process. If you are tired of submitting your website to the directories, you can hire the SEO company. The SEO company offers directory submission at a cheap price. The directory submission is performed by a group of staffs that are good at search engine optimization. They are familiar with the guidelines in the directories so your website will get approved within a short time. Different SEO companies charge a different price. You have to perform research so that you can find out which SEO company is offering the cheapest price. Performing a price comparison is important because it enables you to save a lot of money.

Basic Techniques to Generate Traffic from Search Engines

Posted By: Wayne Robinson

Traffic — And lots of it! It is the dream of every netrepreneur. After all, without a steady stream of visitors — or should I say “potential customers” to your website, how will you earn your e-fortune?

The first place most e-business start-ups go when they need a quick traffic fix is the search engines. And rightfully so! After all, a top ranking position in one of the major search engines is an effective way to increase the traffic to your website without spending your hard-earned advertising dollars!

Statistics have repeatedly shown that anywhere from 20% to 80% of your visitors will find your website via a search engine. However, you should also know that statistics show that most web surfers never search beyond the top 30 results they receive. With that in mind, it is clear that a top position should be the goal of any savvy site owner.

But top spots are no longer achieved by crossing your fingers and blindly submitting your website to 900+ search engines and directories using a free submission service. Competition for top spots is getting fierce, so it is important that you learn the “right” techniques if you want to ensure that your website is well ranked… and it is very important that you do so while this great advertising medium is still FREE!

As I said before; for high traffic generation to your website, it is very important that your website ranks in top spots in search engines. You may ask “What are the search engine looking for when they rank my website?” Well, although each search engine uses a different set of algorithms to rank websites, but generally speaking, however, here are some of the main factors currently being considered by the search engines.

1. Link Popularity

Alta Vista, Excite, Lycos, and the web pages search promotion of Yahoo! use a ranking system that involves measuring and ranking the number of links that are directed towards a particular website. This is an extremely powerful traffic generation tools because:

Reason # 1

Building a well thought-out linking strategy is a powerful way to attract large volumes of high targeted traffic! By putting your website on every major web “intersection” where your target market meets, you will ensure that your website receives a steady flow of qualified potential customers.

Reason # 2

Links are equivalent to recommendations! They established credibility even before the visitor reaches your website, dramatically increasing the likelihood that they will buy.

Think about it… David arrives at his favorite website and notices that they have posted a link to your website. He knows and trusts his favorite website and therefore assumes that, because they have a linked to you, your business must be credible too. He clicks through the link to your website and is immediately open to offers you present him with. Why? Because your credibility was established before he even arrived at your homepage!

Reason # 3

Since many search engines now factor link popularity into their ranking decisions, your linking strategies are all that much more important! If you want to be ranked as high as possible in search engines, you now need a factor in your link popularity – and, as you already know, earnings a top spot in the major search engines is key to increasing your website traffic.

Obviously, developing a linking strategy that generates a high volume of targeted traffic to your website is not an overnight process. It will take you anywhere from two weeks to six months to secure quality links you need. However, I promise you that it is worth the effort! Once you have done the initial footwork, the links that are established will remain on these websites for years to come. Your perseverance will pay big dividends in the form of a continuous flow of targeted traffic generation.

2. Your Domain Name

A domain name plays a vital role in traffic generation to any website. Domain names rich in keywords will rank higher in search engines because search engines love URL’s that are saturated with keywords! Brainstorm keywords and key phrases for your website and then use them to create a catchy URL… or load the domain name with your best keywords to get ranked higher in the search engines.

3. Key Word Density

Keywords definitely refer to the number of times your keyword appears throughout your site. Your keyword density is a factor that is heavily weighted by search engines, so it’s very important to make strategic use of your keywords.

So, these are the golden facts and tactics through which you can drive high traffic to your website. I should also mention that you do not expect to enter a couple of your top keywords into the search engines and instantly start making money through your website, that is very rare. But yes, you can really make high traffic through search engines without crossing the line into “keyword stuffing” and with a little time.

Optimizing Meta Tags to Increase Your Site’s Visibility

Posted By M Rooney

Meta tags are added to a web page to increase its visibility in the search engine.

The Meta tags consist of three important components which are a title, description, and keyword. The title is the most commonly used Meta tag. It is displayed on top of the browser window. It acts as the title of the document.

The Meta description is not shown in the browser but it is shown in the search result. The Meta description is often used in a web page that does not contain text content.

For example, in an art gallery site, the whole page displays only the picture. Since no text is placed on the site, you have to use the Meta description to optimize it with keywords.

The Meta tags are usually added under the head tags. The Meta tags for each page should be unique. In this way, you can avoid duplication problem.

You should use different Meta tags for each page on the website. The best keyword research tool for researching keyword is the Google AdWords keyword tool.

The new Google AdWords keyword tool offers many improved functions. The keyword tool allows you to analyze a keyword based on the competition, number of searches, CPC and etc. The Meta keywords are the least important of all the Meta tags. Some people like to take advantage of the Meta keywords by spamming it with a huge list of keywords.

The Meta keywords should not exceed more than 255 characters. If the Meta keywords exceed 255 characters, it will be considered spam by the search engine. Your site may be blacklisted by the search engine as a spam site because of including too many keywords.

You can use multiple words as one keyword. In order for the search engine to recognize a phrase as a single keyword, you have to use the comma. The most important keyword should be positioned in front followed by the less important keywords.

The title and description should be written properly so that people will be interested in viewing the web page. Sometimes, the search engine will display the Meta description in the search result if it couldn’t find any keyword in the article. It is important to optimize the Meta title and description with keywords.

By optimizing the Meta title and description, you will be able to rank well in the search engine. The keyword you use must have low competition. You should not use misspelled keywords in your Meta tag.

Though misspelled keywords have small competition, it will drop your search engine ranking if you use it.

The search engine knows that you are trying to manipulate it so it will never rank you. Using misspelled keyword also cause people to think that your site is unprofessional. When people see that your site is unprofessional, they will avoid it and won’t consider buying your product. In addition, the keyword phrase you use must be meaningful. If the keyword phrase is not meaningful, the search engine will consider you as a spammer.

10 Costly Search Engine Mistakes to Avoid

Posted By: Brad Eden

If you have a website then you already know the importance of traffic. Traffic is to Internet marketing as a location is to real estate. It’s the only thing that really matters. If you cannot generate targeted visitors to your site, you will not make any sales.

Usually the owner or designer of the website is the person designated to drive traffic to the site. The chief ingredient in generating traffic is the search engine. Of course, you can use advertising, but it’s going to cost you. Using the search engines to generate targeted (interested in your product) traffic is the least expensive method known.

Unfortunately, many website owners do not understand the importance of search engine visibility, which leads to traffic. They place more importance on producing a “pretty” website. Not that this is bad, but it is really secondary to search engine placement. Hopefully, the following list of common mistakes, made by many website owners, will help you generate more targeted traffic to your site…after all, isn’t that what you want.

1. Not using keywords effectively.

This is probably one of the most critical areas of site design. Choose the right keywords and potential customers will find your site. Use the wrong ones and your site will see little, if any, traffic.

2. Repeating the same keywords.

When you use the same keywords over and over again (called keyword stacking) the search engines may downgrade (or skip) the page or site.

3. Robbing pages from other websites.

How many times have you heard or read that “this is the Internet and it’s ok” to steal icons and text from websites to use on your site Don’t do it It’s one thing to learn from others who have been there and another to outright copy their work. The search engines are very smart and usually, detect page duplication. They may even prevent you from ever being listed by them.

4. Using keywords that are not related to your website.

Many unethical website owners try to gain search engine visibility by using keywords that have nothing at all to do with their website. They place unrelated keywords on a page (such as “sex”, the name of a known celebrity, the hot search topic of the day, etc.) inside a meta tag for a page. The keyword doesn’t have anything to do with the page topic. However, since the keyword is popular, they think this will boost their visibility. This technique is considered spam by the search engines and may cause the page (or sometimes the whole site) to be removed from the search engine listing.

5. Keyword stuffing.

Somewhat like keyword stacking listed above, this means to assign multiple keywords to the description of a graphic or layer that appears on your website by using the “alt=” HTML parameter. If the search engines find that this text does not really describe the graphic or layer it will be considered spam.

6. Relying on hidden text.

You might be inclined to think that if you cannot see it, it doesn’t hurt. Wrong…. Do not try to hide your keywords or keyword phrases by making them invisible. For example, some unethical designers may set the keywords to the same color as the background of the web page; thereby, making it invisible.

7. Relying on a tiny text.

This is another version of the item above (relying on hidden text). Do not try to hide your keywords or keyword phrases by making them tiny. Setting the text size of the keywords so small that it can barely be seen does this.

8. Assuming all search engines are the same.

Many people assume that each search engine plays by the same rules. This is not so. Each has their own rule base and is subject to change anytime they so desire. Make it a point to learn what each major search engine requires for high visibility.

9. Using free web hosting.

Do not use free web hosting if you are really serious about increasing site traffic via search engine visibility. Many times the search engines will eliminate content from these free hosts.

10. Forgetting to check for missing web page elements.

Make sure to check every page on your website for completeness, like missing links, graphics, etc. There are sites on the web that will do this for free.

This is just a few of the methods and techniques that you should avoid. Do not give in to the temptation that these methods will work for you. They will do more harm than good for your website.

Not only will you spend weeks of wasted effort, you may have your site banned from the search engines forever. Invest a little time to learn the proper techniques for increasing search engine visibility and your net traffic will increase.

The Steps Before Website Traffic

Posted By: Mike Burke
By now, you probably already have the theme of your website established, your keywords picked and your website ready to go live. You’re thinking that you’ll submit your site to the search engines, sit back and see how much traffic the search engines will send you, right?

STOP! There are many different avenues you can take to drive traffic to your site but they should only be taken after you make the search engines your first priority. The search engines should be your foundation. They’ll always send you a certain amount of traffic if you have a high page rank.

IMPORTANT!

Your website must be ‘set up’ for a high page rank in the search engines and it’s important to do it ‘before’ you submit your site for the first time. Here’s the reason why:

Usually, after you submit your website to the search engines for the first time, your website will be ‘spidered’ fairly quickly and hopefully your site will be listed on one of the top pages.

Your website may not get ‘spidered’ again for months so if you make changes to optimize your site, you may not see your changes take effect for quite a while. You could be stuck on a back page, if any page at all, for a very long time.

Without getting into the mechanics of designing your website, here are the basics of setting up your website to be search engine friendly.

THE FIRST STEP is to establish the main keyword for your site. This is the word or phrase that you want people to type into the search engines to find your website. It’s important to have your site focused around your main keyword.

Let’s say you have a site dedicated to ‘building your own home’ so we’ll use ‘home building’ as our main keyword example.

THE NEXT STEP is to create a title for your website and to place it in the ‘title tag’ of your site. The ‘title tag’ should be the first tag in the ‘head’ of your site and it’s important because many search engines use the contents of the ‘title tag’ as the title of the listing. They also look for keywords in the title and your main keyword should be the first words in the title.

Generally, your title should be no more than 40 characters and, again, it should begin with your main keyword. Try to avoid using ‘stop words’ in your title. Stop words are transition words such as – and, but, or, for, with, etc.

Here’s a possible title using our example main keyword ‘home building’ – Home Building – Home Construction Plans

Notice our main keyword is first, the title is less than 40 characters (39), there are no stop words and we managed to sneak in 3 secondary keywords – home construction, construction plans, and home construction plans. Clever huh?

THE NEXT STEP is to create a ‘keywords meta tag’. This is where you list all the keywords you want to use for your website starting with your ‘main keyword’. A good rule of thumb is to use about 20 keywords and your main keyword should be contained in about half of them.

Using our example keyword ‘home building’ our keywords could be – home building, home construction, home building plans, home building cost, construction plans, etc.

Notice I didn’t use our main keyword ‘home building’ twice in a row. For example – home building, home building plans, etc. Search engines might see this as spam and it could hurt your ranking.

THE NEXT STEP is to create a ‘description meta tag’. This is where you describe your website and, again, you should start with your main keyword.

Keep your description to about 150 characters, use as few ‘stop words’ as you can and sprinkle in as many secondary keywords as possible.
Make your description interesting because search engines often use the contents in your ‘description meta tag’ as the description of your website in the listing.

THE NEXT STEP is to use your keywords often in the body of your website. Make sure your ‘main keyword’ is somewhere in the beginning and at the end of the body of your page.

It’s a good idea to use your main keyword in an ‘h1’ tag and a few of your secondary keywords in an ‘h2’ tag. This tells the search engines that you put importance on your keywords.

It’s also a good idea to underline your main keyword no more than once and to use bold text for your main keyword no more than once.

Although there are other factors that determine your position in the search engines, having the basics of what search engines look for will give you a much better chance of making that elusive first page and driving consistent website traffic to your site.

How to Write Title Tags for Your Web Pages

Posted By: Donald Nelson

When it comes to search engine optimization, the single most important sentence that you will write for your website is the title tag of your main page. If you write it properly then you will have taken a big step towards getting your site well placed in search engine queries for your important keywords.
Before I give you a step-by-step guide to writing title tags, let’s define what they actually are and see why they are important. When you look at a web page in your browser, the writing in the blue strip above browser’s commands (file, edit, view, etc.) is the title tag.

On your actual HTML document, the title tag is in the head portion between the notation and the title tag is important because it “tells” the search engine what the page is about, and in the case of your main page, what your website is all about.
I remember back in my school days that we used to take standardized examinations in which we had to read a story and then answer the question: “What would be the best title for this essay?” Choosing a title tag is something like answering this kind of question. You’ve got to pick out the gist of your enterprise and highlight it in a sentence. So, take a look at your web page and get ready to begin, following these steps:
1. Make sure your three or four most important keywords or keyword phrases appear in the title tag. The most important words should appear near the beginning of the sentence, and they can be repeated within the sentence for added emphasis. For example, if I am offering low-cost web design, then my title tag might look like this:Web Design: Affordable, Low-Cost Web Design from the Acme Web Design Company
2. Leave your branding and sales pitch for another part of the web page. Although it is a natural tendency to want to put your company name at the beginning of the title tag, you should remember that unless you are very famous like Coca Cola, people are not searching for you. So, put your most important keywords at the front of the title tag, and establish your brand name with your logo and other elements of the web page. If your company name includes your keywords, like our hypothetical Acme Web Design Company, then put it in the title tag, but not necessarily at the beginning.
Similarly, the title tag is no place for your sales pitch, so keep out flowery or extraneous adjectives, unless they are actual terms used in searches for your product or service.
3. Place your geographical or niche-defining term in your title tag. If you are trying for a top ten or top twenty positions for a term such as “web design,” then you are really in for a difficult struggle. However, suppose the Acme Web Design Company is located in Columbus, Ohio. Then instead of attempting the almost impossible task of getting the top rankings for the term “web design,” it would be far better to get a high ranking in the geographical niche using a title tag such “Web Design, Columbus, Ohio: Low Cost Web Design in Columbus, Ohio by The Acme Web Design Company”
4. The title tag can be longer than you think. Some guidelines say that the title tag should be no longer than 70 characters. It is true that only the first 70 characters will show in the top bar of the browser, but search engine robots will read the rest of the tag and the search engines will not penalize you for going over the 70 character mark. Take a look at highly ranked sites in heavily competitive categories and you will see examples of long title tags. Write the tag according to your need to get your important words and phrases included in a sentence that best describes what your product or service is about.
5. Vary the title tags on the inner pages of your website. Even with a long title tag, it is not possible to highlight all the possible terms which someone might use to find your website. This is not a problem if you make use of the other pages of your website. Instead of simply having a title tag that says “services” our web design firm could highlight “low cost, web design services” on that page. The “contact” page could be used to emphasize the geographical location once again, and so on. Many websites make the mistake of repeating the same title tag on each of the inner pages of the site. Avoid this and use each of your page’s titles to target important keywords and keyword phrases.

So, take a look at your website’s title tags, and see if you can improve them. The effort that you make will be well rewarded.

Meta tags and title

The title of your web pages is what will attract search engines to your site. That’s why it’s important that not only is the title interesting and catchy, but it also has relevant keywords in it. That way the search engine robots that crawl sites get to access your site instantly. Website search engine optimization is all about being accessible to search engines. Even your site Meta tags need to have these keywords well placed.

Knowing your competition

Many website search engine optimization service providers will do an in-depth competitive analysis. This is because in order to stay ahead in the competition you need to know where you stand. That’s why it helps to find out which keywords are currently being used by your immediate competition. It will also enable you to learn from their mistakes and fine tune your site optimization efforts better.

Manual submission

Many providers will also manually submit your site to search engines online. Through this they are able to effectively and actively propagate your website to the web. Website search engine optimization methods involve fine tuning of content, building more links as well as involving tools like PPC etc. to drive more traffic.

Link density

The page rank and popularity of your site will depend on the number of links as well as the kind and quality of links on your site. In fact most of the popular search engines of today distinguish successful and not so successful sites by the density of links on their sites. Therefore as part of your website search engine optimization program you need to ensure active procurement of associated links to your site. By improving the link density you get to improve the relative placement of your site in search engine results.

High quality links

It isn’t just sufficient to have a large volume of links to your site. It’s also equally important in website search engine optimization to have good quality links from reliable partners. Therefore, it is essential to test the strength and effectiveness of each link before incorporating it into your site.

Search Engine Optimization Vs. Search Engine Marketing: What’s The Difference?

By Simplifying The WEB

SEO and SEM are two terms that are commonly bandied about by webmasters. Sometimes it seems as if the two terms are used almost interchangeably. But is there a difference, and if so, what is it?

In fact, there is a difference. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. It refers to anything you do to your page to make it more search engine friendly. SEM stands for Search Engine Marketing. It forms a sort of umbrella term that can refer to anything you do to get your page ranked higher in search engines, from search engine optimization to requesting backlinks to submitting your URL to search engines.

It’s important to know the difference between the two when you’re shopping for SEO or SEM services. If the company doesn’t specify what services it offers as part of its “SEM Package,” then don’t hesitate to ask. And don’t hand over any money until you know! Some companies may mean nothing more than submitting your website’s URL to a few search engines, and you can do that yourself.

Whenever possible, get a list of specific things they plan to do to help surfers find your website. Will they submit your URL to search engines? Get a list of the search engines they plan to submit it to. (“Yahoo!, Google, and 100’s More!” doesn’t count.) Will they keyword optimize your site? Be sure to ask if they include META and ALT tags.

Ultimately, whether a company uses “SEO” or “SEM” doesn’t matter as much as what services they offer. Ideally, SEM would be more valuable than SEO, because it would include SEO as well as other marketing strategies. But this is not always the case. As we’ve noted before, it can be simply a code for “stick your URL is a few search engines and be done with it.” Look for reputable websites, and ask for specific services they offer. Once you’ve done your homework, you will be able to make an informed decision between SEO and SEM and march forward proudly, knowing that you truly got the best value for your money.

How to Raise Your Rankings in Search Engines – Basic SEO

By: Duane Jacobson
I don’t know how many times I’ve been asked. “How do I get traffic to my website?”

To best discuss this topic I should break this down into categories.

1. Title Tags
The title Should contain keywords and keyword phrases that are important to your site. Our recommended maximum number of characters for this tag is 60.
Also when counting your characters remember that spaces are considered as well.
Titles should appeal to the reader otherwise even a top position will lose a lot of clicks.
For example, “shoes,Nike shoes, best shoes, review shoes,” is unlikely to induce a click. What may induce a click would be like:
Shoes – Find out the latest styles on name brand shoes.

2. Description
The maximum number of characters I recommend for this Tag is 150. Any longer than this and it will only be cut off and may count against your site being listed high in the search engines. Try to repeat your keywords that you used in your title in a proper sentence and in 3rd party. Avoid I, Me, Myself etc

3. Keywords
keywords My recommended maximum number of characters for this tag is 250. Any more than that may be considered spamming. Keep your keywords focused upon what your site is about.
Don’t think that if I use an assortment of different keywords that your site will be a seller. Targeted marketing is associated with your keywords.

Magic Submitter

4. Keyword Nesting
Description: A term used in searching to indicate the sequence in which operations are to be performed
Enclosing words in parentheses identifies a group or “nest.” Groups can be within other groups.
The operations will be performed from the innermost nest to the out most, and then from left to right.
keyword nesting is nesting your top 5 most important keywords in the HTML page that the public will see. I would recommend using the keywords that you’ve used in your title, description.

5. Head Tags not to be confused with (head) tags def.
HEAD or HEADER (of HTML document)
The top portion of the HTML source code behind Web pages, beginning with and ending with . It contains the Title, Description, Keywords fields and others that web page authors may use to describe the page. The title appears in the title bar of most browsers, but the other fields cannot be seen as part of the body of the page. To view the portion of web pages in your browser, click VIEW, Page Source. In Internet Explorer, click VIEW, Source. Some search engines will retrieve based on text in these fields.
Head Tags should be a repeat of your title tag. Most webmasters put their head tag right after the body tag. A head tag will look like this (h1) (/h1) with the ( and ) being replaced with < >

6. Anchor Links
Anchor Links is one of the most important html tags that your site needs to gain search engine page rank especially in google and msn.

SEO- 9 Ridiculously Easy Steps to the Top 10

By: Murray Daniels

Search Engine Optimization companies are making a fortune by doing the menial work that is overlooked by many designers. It is ridiculously easy to do most of the work done by most SEO companies, all you have to do is create good habits.
There are 9 main points you should focus on:

• Keywords
• URL Text
• Description, Meta tags
• Title tags
• Image Names
• ALT tags
• Heading tags
• Content
• Hyperlinks

The focus of these 8 steps is to load your pages with as many “keywords” as possible.

Keywords
Keywords are the most important aspect of good SEO, this is where you tell the Search Engines what your site is about. Search Engines use an algorithm to determine the “Keyword Density” of your site, this formula is:

Total Words ÷ Keywords= Keyword Density

Use this formula on your competitors web site and see how they score, then aim to beat that score.

Choose keywords that best relate to the information, products or services that you are offering. For instance, if I am designing a site about “Web Design”, I want my site to include the words “Web Design” as many times as possible.

However, most people don’t just search for just one word, they type phrases, so you should consider the phrases that best suit your sites target market. For example, if I am creating a site about “Web Design” in New Orleans, I would include “New Orleans web design” in my keywords. Another way around this is to not separate my keywords with commas, just use spaces, and the Search Engines will make the phrases for you. The most important thing to remember is that the content of each page is different, so only use keywords pertaining to that page.

URL Text
When you name a new page you have the option to call it anything you could possibly think of, why not se a keyword? After all, the URL address is the first things a search engine comes across when indexing your pages. You have to remember content doesn’t come easy to everyone, so you gotta slip in your keywords when the process gives you an easy one.

Description Meta tags
These tags are dwindling in importance since Search Engines are now looking at content, but every little bit counts.

Optimize your meta tags to match your content, products, and services, and the Search Engines that still look at meta data will reward your efforts.

Title Tags
Title tags are the tags that tell the Search Engine the title, or formal description of the document or page. This is the word or phrase that is seen at the top of the browser window. The most important rule about title tags is, don’t put anything in the title tags but keywords. Once again this is an easy time to slip in your keywords, so don’t miss out.

Image Names
As I said before, content doesn’t come easy to everyone, so slip in your keywords whenever possible, this applies to image names. If you are saving a picture of a guy working on a computer for your web design web site, don’t call it “some_dude.jpg”, call it “web_site_design.jpg”. The Search engine will look at the code for the site and see the image pertains to the content of the site and this will be another relevant element on that particular page. You have to take the easy ones when you are given a chance.

ALT tags
Alt tags are keywords that you can attach to images, giving more weight to the image since Search Engines can’t analyze the content of the image itself. Here is a chance to slip in more keywords without writing great content, use it.

Heading tags
Heading tags are associated with the bold font that leads into a section of text. Like this:

Web Design
Web Design Inc. offers custom web site designs…

Your heading tags should only be keywords, and should be presented in the order that your Meta tags follow.

H1= first meta tag, H2= second meta tag…

Try to utilize all 6 heading tags on each page to ensure maximum page optimization.

Content
As every expert will tell you, “Content is King.” Each web page should have at least 350 words on it, and the more the better, but keep in mind the formula for keyword density. You don’t want to fill a page with 1500 words of jibba-jabba and only 5 keywords in it. Some people get hung-up on how browsers display text, and use images with text in them because they want a cool font, but browsers can’t read the text embedded in images, so this content ads no weight to the page in a Search Engines eyes.

Link-baiting is the new trend among high-ranking sites. Link-baiting means writing quality content, or articles that other web sites can display on their pages as long as they give credit, and a link to your site.

You don’t have to be a vi or emic expert to write good web content, just be thoughtful of how you word things and incorporate your keywords.

Hyperlinks
Hyperlinks are text links to other pages on your site. The rules of SEO and hyperlinks are easy:

• Use hyperlinks so the Search Engine will have a text link to follow to the next page
• Don’t use one word links, use long link phrases, preferably keyword phrases
• Use bullets, or some sort of small image that you can attach an ALT tag to, this will ad more importance to the link, and throw in a couple of free keywords for you.

Keep these 9 aspects in mid when designing a site, and you are sure to have a leg up on the competition.

The Importance Of Adding Content Marketing To Your 2016 Marketing Plan

By: Sparky Parker

Content marketing has become the buzz word in the last few years. Because of the latest algorithms that Google has put in place, it has become increasingly important that website owners produce content that will captivate readers and engage them.

Content marketing offers businesses the opportunity to connect with customers by producing content that is relevant and educational. It is an excellent way to build your brand and be seen as an expert, which is vital for attracting new business.

Mobile devices are being used regularly to access the internet and the content that is created needs to target these consumers. When you are trying to pinpoint the exact demographic you are marketing to, it is essential that you consider the methods they will be using to log on. For instance, if you are targeting teen girls who are still in high school, it is important that all of your content can easily be read on a mobile device since this is the main method they would use to get online.

You should also target users who are likely to share your content with others. In the same vein, you must create content that is so compelling people cannot help but spread the word. Instead of the stale, bland content everyone is used to, here are a few ideas to help get people talking and sharing.

– Create interactive content that people will need to toy around with. For example, create a quiz that is relevant to your business. They will fill it out, get results and share it with their friends so they can test their smarts as well.

– Internet speeds have risen globally in 2016. As a result, you can feel more comfortable creating content that is filled with graphics. Images command much more attention than plain words on a screen.

Most successful businesses use content marketing to their advantage. If you are not doing the same, it will be far too easy for you to slip through the cracks. Not only do you have to create content, but you have to make it better than anything else that is available.

You can use content marketing as part of your email marketing strategy as well. By writing compelling subject lines, sending emails at ideal times and creating landing pages that match the messages that are sent out are all excellent ways to make people read what you send. Be sure that the subject line aligns with the content that you are sending your readers to read, otherwise, you could be marked as a spammer.

By taking the time and creating content that is relevant and useful, you will attract people to your website. You can share your content on the many social sites and you won’t have to rely so much on Google to get visitors to your site.

Each year, content marketing strategies must change in order to fit the times. The methods being used will evolve over time, but the fact remains that this is currently and always will be one of the most effective ways to reach your intended audience.
